What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a holistic approach to disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system without the use of drugs or surgery. Every joint in your body has a certain range of motion, and in a certain direction for that motion.
Through the use of orthopedic, and palpatory examinations, a chiropractor can detect areas of the spine that are not moving the way they should and would correct these restrictions of movement with an adjustment. A restricted joint has been shown at the cellular level exhibit degenerative changes such as an increase in inflammation within just one week. These areas of inflammation can cause a cascade of events within your body such as local muscle and joint pain, and nerve irritation causing areas to feel anything from numbness, to tingling and even weakness. These areas of altered sensation and movement may not be located directly next to the hypomobile joint, but may manifest in your arms, legs, shoulders and even head in the form of headaches. The goal of chiropractic care is to decrease pain while increasing function through the use of adjustments to the hypomobile joints.
