Chiropractic for Pregnancy
Chiropractic for pregnancy is an important choice during your prenatal care. Many women experience back pain and/or pelvic pain during pregnancy. This is due largely because of the rapid changes a women’s body is undergoing in a short period of time. The body sometimes has difficulty adapting to these demands which can overtax any structural imbalances that had previously been hiding. Chiropractic adjustments throughout pregnancy can relieve and even prevent common musculoskeletal discomforts.
As the baby develops, the uterus expands and takes up new spaces in the pelvis. When the pelvis is balanced, the ligaments connecting the uterus to the pelvis keep things in an equal suspension. If the pelvis has any imbalances the ligaments can become torqued and strained causing what is known as “constraint to the uterus”. When this happens, the space allowed for the baby to grow is limited, which can ultimately affect optimal development and has been attributed to conditions such as torticolis in the newborn. A constrained uterus can also limit the amount of space the baby has to position itself head down for delivery. Any baby position even slightly off during birth can slow down labor, or increase the amount of pain experienced by the mother and baby. Chiropractic care works to treat any pelvic imbalances creating an environment for a safer and easier delivery.
