health_wings_Health is the body’s ability to adapt to internal and external stresses in the absence of disease. A good way to measure a person’s health is to make their system adapt to an external stress such as walking up a flight of stairs and monitoring breath and heart rates. The most important measurement is how long it takes these rates to return to normal when the external stress is taken away, or the person has reached the top of the stairs.

So why is it important to your health to get adjusted by a chiropractor? Your spinal cord is being constantly bombarded by nociception, or pain signals from your body. However you do not perceive pain until the message has reached your brain. This is a primitive survival instinct because you really don’t want to be worried about the cut on your leg when you are being chased by a tiger. Over time however, the threshold for nociception is lowered and your brain begins to perceive increased pain with less stimulus. By having your spinal joints adjusted, the normal flow of signals from your body to your brain and vice versa is restored, allowing the body to adapt to stresses more quickly and more frequently. So…. everyone should be adjusted, as symptoms appear long after the body has been attempting to adapt.
